An Animal Kingdom

Sorority girls
Sit in leather
Chairs talking well
About colleagues,
Back in the shade
Corner
Of the eatery.

Lonely conquistadors
Of self
Look down
at cracks in pavement
or tile. Most in head
phones.

Us workers
Go about hair
Nets and Sneezing
On our hands.

Frat guys
Prowl
Over there.

Doleful students
-real ones-
Bend their long
Necks over books

This water
-ing hole allows
Me to view the
Bestial kingdom.
No Lions.

I see chatting birds,
Sloths barely there and
Little unnoticed ants
Amongst the anarchists hyenas.
Sometimes I see a scholastic
Giraffe poke its head
Above the canopies of
State-funded education.
But never lions.

The reason for all this is not reasonable. The reason, strictly art, Still makes no sense to me.
